The return of the familiar faces
Written July 9, 2021
Lately I’ve had a bunch of reunions, with the people I know but don’t know. The people I see on the street, or at the store, or used to always be in the same train car with. And when we see each other, there’s a mutual celebration of not only seeing the familiar face (in a city of 8 million people, these have always felt like mini celebrations), but also a celebration of life- you’re still here and you’re doing okay. Or we look like we’re doing okay even though we’re coming off an intense season.
After having another one of these celebrations at @silvermoonbakery it occurred to me that I still don’t know his name. So the next time I’ll celebrate the reunion and learn his name. And then I’ll use a memory trick so I won’t forget it the next time because I’m terrible with names, but I never forget the stories.
NYC, we have one heck of a story to tell coming around the corona corner. While I know we’re not out of the woods just yet, I will continue to celebrate that so many of us are still here, saying hello and recognizing the stories we have to tell.
