Walking a slippery slope
Written May 7, 2021
I was tempted to straighten the picture before posting it, noticing it’s on a slant. Then I thought about how it’s an accurate depiction of where we are these days. Seeing the light in this long tunnel, seeing signs of life in our city that were absent a year ago, but still walking cautiously, feeling like it’s a bit of a slippery slope.
I’m wondering how we’ll emerge from the last year plus- how work will look, how school will be, how our relationships will change and how we’ll continue to walk this slippery slope in the months and years that follow.
I’ve had conversations with teachers I work with, wondering how vast the ripples from this year will go, wondering if it will be ripples or if there will be waves. No one has the answers of course, so for now we notice and we wonder and we continue to walk toward the light with our lessons learned and our eyes open to new possibilities.
For those walking the slippery slope, here’s to being able to extend a hand to steady ourselves, to be able to lean into our friends and neighbors and to being able to hug family again. Everyday, we get one step closer and for that, I am so grateful.
