September 2.0
Written April 29, 2021
Today is the fourth consecutive day of in-person school for these two. I’ve had to remind myself (thank you Diane) that it’s like September 2.0. New classroom dynamics, new classmates, new seats. And yet, with all the changes there are so many things that have stayed the same. Teachers and staff looking out for everyone’s well being. Masks stay on. Classroom rules are structured and consistent. And sisters look out for each other.
This year has been filled with transitions and pivots. I’m grateful for the reminder to look for the similarities, to be open to the changes, for science and vaccines and the promise that we’re moving forward. For those of us with kids, our road back to some kind of pre-pandemic “normalcy” is a winding one. So we’re putting one foot in front of the other, through the laughs and the tears and the changes and hanging on to come out of this stronger and with a clearer path forward.
Here’s to another day and another step closer, fueled by one large coffee to pivot, soothe and remind ourselves that we are all doing the best we can with the tools we have (thank you Brene Brown for that wisdom).
