Times for a change
Written February 6, 2021
For years I have dreamed of the day that we could realistically subscribe to, and be able to read, the print edition of the The New York Times We knew daily delivery was still out of range given young kids but the weekend delivery felt feasible.
Today we received our first paper delivery; what incredible timing. For anyone feeling like they’re not being heard or are alone in how they’re feeling, this was a sad but needed reminder that you are in good, strong, trying to make it through the day company. It also reminded me to appreciate having a job, having support with the girls, being able to feed our family and working with understanding colleagues and school communities who understand what a mess this time is.
And if you read this and are looking for ways to support, the article offers actionable ideas for ways to help out people in your life who are trying to manage pandemic parenting. As a side note, supporting local food banks is another thought- the statistic that 1 in 4 children have experienced food insecurity is pretty sobering.
I know things will not always be this way and I wonder what policy changes will come out of this. It’s pretty apparent there needs to be a shift in how families are protected in times of crisis.
