I Heart NY
Written May 15, 2020
NYC, on days like today it’s easy to love you. Sunny with marshmallow clouds floating by here and there, finding a patch of park with no one within 60 feet and for a 30-minute stretch, we could be outside without a mask, eating afternoon snack outside after skipping Friday’s closing meeting for school.
It’s easy to forget that two months ago today we learned schools would close and we were to go on lockdown. It’s easy to forget how scary that felt; how those last few subway rides left everyone feeling uneasy, how cold and lonely we were.
Today I feel safer here in my neighborhood in NYC than I think I would anywhere else. Most of us are wearing masks. We keep our distance. We keep clapping every night at 7 p.m. because this is far from over and so many continue to put their lives on the line day after day. Thank you to all my NYC neighbors and those who commute in and are doing their part. Today and everyday, I NY, even when the city makes us work for it.
